Overground travel is about to get a lot more luxurious.
Belmond, the high-end hoteliers and luxury train operators, have just announced three new private ‘Grand Suites’ aboard the legendary Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. They will be available to book from March next year.
The new suites, which will offer “new levels of luxury accommodation” aboard the historic train, will each feature private bathrooms with showers, double beds, and a living area.
As one of the world’s most famous luxury trains, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express crisscrosses Europe through sublime scenery with stops at some of the continent’s most alluring cities, such as Paris and Venice.
Passengers currently enjoy delightfully vintage cabins, gastronomic cuisine and lively onboard entertainment, making it the journey one of the world’s finest travel experiences.
From March 2018, discerning passengers will also have the option of reserving their very own Grand Suite, complete with an original 1920s art-deco design that is inspired by one of the cities it represents – Paris, Venice and Istanbul.
The elegant new suites will transport guests back to the golden era of travel when train travel was the most convenient way for travellers to cross international borders.
In a press release, Belmond state that the new suites will offer authentic interior designs that “evoke the nostalgia and glamour of a bygone era,” complemented with spacious interiors and ensuite bathrooms.
“This is a one of a kind restoration project,” Comments Gary Franklin, Managing Director, Trains & Cruises. “we are going to completely transform the individual classic cabins into three exceptional suites. This is such an exciting project and one where for we can offer guests spacious accommodation with private bathrooms and showers.”
The unique design project is being conducted by London-based Wimberly Interiors, who have emphasised how important it was that the unique story and history of the brand was embraced in the design.
Rachel Johnson, Vice President and Studio Director, Wimberly Interiors, said: “To capture the epitome of classic luxury travel that the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express exudes, we focused on moments within each city, inspiring visual cues and the overall Belmond guest experience. It was an exciting challenge to use this inspiration to recreate the essence of art deco glamour in an elegant and timeless design.”
The spirit of each city is brought to life in each suite with a number thoughtful design touches, such as hand carved timber and embossed leather in the Istanbul Suite, “chic and elegant furnishings” in the Paris Suite, and silk fabrics, hand crafted Venetian glass, and baroque style furnishings in the Venice Suite.
Lucky passengers who travel in the Paris, Venice and Istanbul suites will enjoy private transfers to and from the train. Upon boarding the train, they will then be welcomed by their personal cabin steward, who is on hand throughout the journey to serve free-flowing champagne and private in-suite dining. Extra touches for passengers include bespoke amenities and a complimentary art-deco bathrobe.
The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express travels between London, Paris and Venice from March to November, and from Paris to Istanbul once a year in August/September – an extraordinary journey to where Europe meets Asia.
A classic one night journey from London to Venice in a Grand Suite is priced at £5,500 per person.
