Hilton Helsinki Airport Hotel, Vantaa Airport – Good standard right next to the airport terminal
General Info and Location
Hilton Helsinki Airport Hotel is located next to Helsinki’s international airport in Vantaa. The hotel is the only one that is directly connected to the terminal and it takes 3-4 minutes to walk between the terminal and the hotel, which makes it a great choice if you are arriving late or travelling early as you do not have to contend with airport transportation or a hotel shuttle bus. The way to the hotel is well signposted from the arrivals hall, after which you take the elevator or stairs up one floor and then follow a glassed walk-way to the entrance.
The interior of the entire hotel has a rather Nordic inspired design, with light wood and bright colours in the lobby, restaurants, other public areas and rooms. The furniture comes mostly from Scandinavian manufacturers.
Our standard room was on the third floor and had a view of the non-Schengen terminal, a building popularly called “The Asian Terminal”. In the evening, you could see some of the long-haul aircraft taking off towards Asia.
The room was 28 square metres and consisted of a king-size bed, work area with desk, armchair and table, and a wardrobe space. There was also a 32-inch flat-screen TV in the room. The decor was mostly white and light colours with a minimalist Nordic design, with focus on functionality rather than extravagance. The furniture was made from light wood, and carpets, textiles and ornaments were light green. A nice detail was that there was no actual wardrobe in the room, instead cavities had been created in the wall behind the bed, one on each side of the bed, with a bedside switch to turn off the lights in the room and space for small personal belongings. A little creative and different.
The bathroom was very spacious and had both a bath and a shower, with a sink sitting below a large mirror.
Eating and Drinking
In the lobby you find a restaurant and bar, Restaurant Gui and Bar Gui. In the restaurant you can eat a proper dinner in the evening, and breakfast is also served in the morning. The bar next door offers a wide variety of drinks as well as a simple bar menu. The bar is perhaps slightly dark, but details like the fireplace help to create a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
We ate a simple dinner in the bar in the evening, a Caesar salad with drink. Everything tasted good but the food was possibly somewhat pricey. Breakfast the next morning in the Restaurant Gui consisted of a variety hot and cold dishes to a good Hilton standard, but without standing out.
In the lobby, in addition to a number of sofas and armchairs, there is also a small business centre with computers for those who did not bring their own. There is also a conference centre with 12 conference rooms of various sizes.
In the basement there is a gym, with, as is customary in Finland, a sauna. One for men and one for women.
If you book an Executive Room or are a member of Hilton HHonors at a high enough level, you will also have access to the executive lounge. Here, breakfast is served in the morning and snacks and drinks are available at other times of the day.
WiFi is available throughout the hotel and worked well, however, in many cases you have to pay to use it.
Service and Status Benefits
Service was friendly and professional throughout the hotel, at the reception, the bar and the restaurant. The male receptionist who took care of our check-in was very pleasant.
A good airport hotel with a decent standard, friendly service and excellent access to the terminal. Everything went well, but an exceptional hotel experience it may well not be.
