The first Kimpton outside of the Americas is to open in Amsterdam on May 22.
Situated in the heart of the Dutch capital, close to Amsterdam Centraal station, the Kimpton De Witt has been fully transformed from a Crowne Plaza hotel to exhibit Kimpton’s bold and playful design, with inspiration taken from Dutch heritage.
Set within a late 20th-century building – with architecture from the Dutch Golden Age – the hotel’s quirkiness is immediately evident in the striking ‘living wall’ of bright florals and botanicals that line the entrance.
With a balance of modern luxury and historical elegance, the Kimpton De Witt has 274 rooms including 9 suites. The best room is undoubtedly the property’s signature suite, the Penthouse De Witt, which covers two storeys and has a 30 square metres of roof terrace where you can obtain unrivalled views of the city’s famed canal house rooftops.
The hotel also features a “house within a hotel” – a four-storey residence dating back to the 16th century, which was once the childhood home of notable Dutch playwright, P.C. Hooft. The “Little House”, which incorporates two king-sized rooms and a first-floor living room, is available to rent for groups.
Next door to the hotel you’ll find the Wyers Bar and Restaurant, serving up delicious American staples with Dutch influences, while inside, whilst the House Bar will offer guests and locals alike a relaxed setting in which to enjoy unique craft creative cocktails and an extensive menu of local gins and genevers. An all-day coffee and beignet shop, Miss Louisa Coffee & Beignets, will also open.
Other perks at the hotel include a modern fitness centre, Gaiam yoga mats in every room, and a complimentary all-day tea station in the lobby. Guests will also be able to use VanMoof bikes free of charge. Additionally, a hosted social hour every evening will give guests the chance to meet other guests and enjoy the hotel like a local.
Kimpton will open its second European property in Paris in 2020.
