Travelling brings with it the perfect opportunity to get lost in a good book. Waiting at airports, long bus journeys and relaxed afternoons in new cities afford us plenty of time to indulge in our literary fancies.
And now, guests staying at 5-star Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel in Knightsbridge, London will be able to discover a number of unique titles after the hotel teamed up with local book shop, Belgravia Books, to create a library for its guests.
The library, housed in the Lowndes Bar & Kitchen restaurant and the hotel’s newly refurbished Map Room function space, features a wide range of books, from novels by local authors to glossy coffee table books on Belgravia brands and biographies of former residents.
Notable titles in the collection include Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Julian Fellowes’ Belgravia, Ian Fleming’s James Bond series, an anthology of Tennyson poetry, a stunning photography book showcasing Philip Treacy’s hats and biographies of politician Margaret Thatcher, poet and novelist Vita Sackville-West and actress Vivien Leigh.
The collection also features books about those with lesser-known Belgravia connections, such as The Man Behind the Great Train Robbery, the autobiography of Bruce Reynolds who plotted much of the notorious heist in the nearby Star Tavern. Famous Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart also makes an appearance having written his first symphony at 180 Ebury Street in 1764.
Ian Richardson, General Manager of the hotel, enthused how delighted the hotel was to be celebrating the rich literary history of the area while supporting a local independent business. He goes on to say that the cobbled streets, hidden mews, ancient pubs and grand town houses are full of stories and he hopes that the Belgravia Lending Library will bring some of these to life for the hotel’s guests.
Additionally, any guests wishing to take a new copy of any of the books home can arrange this through the hotel concierge and will benefit from a 20% discount at Belgravia Books on presentation of their room key card in the store.
Book your stay at London’s luxurious Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel here to save up 60%, and rekindle your love for the written word with this most unique collection of works.
