The Swiss are a smart bunch. We all know that. They’re also pretty healthy, so it’s no wonder that the country is now home to a brand new 5-star health centre – just in time to help stick to your New Year’s resolutions!
Located in the Swiss Alps, the Waldhotel Health & Medical Excellence is a part of the Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne, which also encompasses the five-star superior Bürgenstock Hotel & Alpine Spa – one of the best luxury hotels to open last year – along with two more hotels, 12 restaurants, lounges and bars, 67 private residence suites, a 107,000 square-foot spa in the Bürgenstock Hotel, three Davis Cup tennis courts, a nine-hole Alpine golf course and 43 miles of hiking and biking trails.
Perched above Lake Lucerne near Bürgenstock mountain, the property has been constructed using natural stone and wood from its surroundings, helping it fit seamlessly into the Alpine landscape. Designed by architect Matteo Thun, the luxurious “forest hotel” features 160 rooms and suites, a 45,208-square foot medical facility, and a 13,993-square-foot spa.
There are also three swimming pools, a restaurant serving healthy cuisine in Mediterranean style, an educational kitchen, a library, two private dining rooms, and a garden featuring 30 different herbs. All rooms and suites have terraces with gorgeous views of the Alps.
Ideal for medical tourists, wellbeing enthusiasts and athletes, the medical centre offers guests a chance to experience the latest in medical technologies and some of the best doctors in the world. As an accredited hospital, Waldhotel also offers medical check-ups, physical therapy, rehabilitation, sports medicine, dentistry, aesthetic and cosmetic procedures, nutrition and weight management, postoperative convalescence, mental health balance and wellness programs.
Upon arrival, each guest will receive an assessment of their health status – which includes biometric and body composition, lung function, an abdominal ultrasound, EKG and HRV, hearing and eye tests, and an energy metabolism measurement. This is then used to create a unique programme, with medical and wellness treatments supported by the health benefits of fresh alpine air and specialist gourmet cuisine
If revitalisation is what you’re after, the Waldhotel spa is the perfect place with an ice room, salt grotto, Finnish sauna, lavish treatment rooms, and a series of pools. The extensive spa offers a menu with everything from a Collagen Infusion facial to a Body & Face Rejuvenation.
